Eli Jacobe, Lic.Ac.

Since graduating from the New England School of Acupuncture in 1985, I have continually confirmed that the methods of natural healing can help so many people with ailments and injuries ranging from minor to major. This is true even for clients who have been told that "everything has been done for you." As soon as you call me for an appointment, we can begin using these approaches to correct your health situation.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture, nutrition and healing herbs are the central, time-tested methods of Chinese Medical Science. This traditional and holistic approach to healthcare offers both prevention and effective treatments for most kinds of pain, injury and illness.
At a full initial examination I evaluate your health to determine the cause of your problem and if traditional Chinese medicine offers an appropriate treatment for you. A free consultation (15 minutes) is available by appointment if you want to explore the use of Chinese medicine for your health prior to scheduling a complete diagnostic evaluation.

For a 13 minute video diary from the first day of the September 2006 trip to Beijing, click the link at the end of this paragraph.  This film was compiled by one of our classmates, Gabriela Taylor.  It starts with her departure from Hawaii and summarizes the first day of immersion into traditional Chinese health culture at Dr. Wan's Institute.   http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-307966863800644617

Additional Holistic, Analytic, and Therapeutic Studies:   Iridology with Dr. Bernard Jensen 1990. Thought Field Therapy with Dr. Roger Callahan, 1989. Chi Kung teaching certificate from Thomas Tam, Lic.Ac., Oriental Culture Institute, Boston, 1987. In 2004, Laser Acupuncture using the Erchonia Laser with Dr. Jeffrey Spencer (who accompanied the American Tour De France Bicycle Team for several years; Lance Armstrong and his teammates were all treated by "cold" laser for their sports injuries and to optimize performance.)

ADDITIONAL MODALITIES - Modern laboratory and clinical science adds valuable information to traditional Chinese holistic diagnosis. Hair mineral testing and Iridology may provide additional information vital to understanding and correcting your health problems. Meridian Stress Analysis uses computer-controlled assesment of the electrical signals in the acupuncture meridians to determine how best to restore balance to your healing process.

NATURAL HEALTH EDUCATION

Since 2006, I have been using  Heart Rate Variability Testing (HRV), a computer-assisted evaluation of your pulse pattern, which checks the balance of the functioning of the two parts of your Autonomic Nervous System: the Sympathectic and the Parasympathetic Nerves. These correspond to the Chinese concepts of Yang (activity) and Yin (repose). Good health requires a balance of these opposing functions.

"HRV" is a measurement discovered at Yale Medical School and developed by cardiologists worldwide to assess balance in the nervous system as reflected by the performance of the heart muscle. The equipment I use was originally developed specifically to assess the condition of Olympic atheletes and navy commandos. However, it can easily tell the rest of us how we are doing. The assessment takes only about 10 minutes.

I have a presentation titled "The Immune System and Your Health," which is available to be given on request. Whether it's the wintertime colds and flu season or any other season, you need to keep up the strength of your immune system. Learn where in your body the different parts of the immune system are located and how they work to protect you from bacteria, viruses and allergies. The presentation will include how stress, nutrition, infections, toxins, and trauma impact the immune system as well as reliable strategies to combat these problems. Other available lectures are: [1] Acupuncture For Pain and Injury, which explains the history and methods of acupuncture, as well as the most current applications of this medical approach. [2] Natural Solutions For Menopause Problems. [3] Natural Approaches To Learning Problems and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. [4] The Chinese Approach to Preventing Colds and Flu Naturally. These public service presentations (which are illustrated with lively slide shows) can be given to your civic, fraternal, educational, health-interest organization or support group. It is free of charge. Please call the office to schedule a preview; 978-525-2255. A printed copy of the PowerPoint slides in handout format for the lecture can be mailed to you to see if the material would be relevant to your group.

It's also great to see increasing acceptance by traditional medical authorities, based on research and clinical outcomes -- as summarized in the Science & Health Section of the Boston Globe newspaper on Tuesday March 22, 2005, written by Judy Foreman. In Internet Explorer, "Right Click" the following address and select "open in new window" for the article:

Nature's Pharmacy

In the spring of 2005, while in San Francisco for a Qigong training with Kam Yuen, I visited an exhibit in Golden Gate Park at the city's greenhouse and botanical garden: The Conservatory Of Flowers. The museum quality exhibit titled "Nature's Pharmacy" illustrated the medicinal use of plants from around the world. To give you a virtual tour of the exhibit, I have posted the photos I took there. You will see living medicinal plants, models and illustrations; and you can read the informative placards on the exhibits: http://www.flickr.com/photos/atlantic-acupuncture/

Chi Kung Classes

There will be a FREE QI-GONG LECTURE DEMONSTRATION from 7:15 to 9:00 PM, Tuesday March 4th, 2008

On the evening of Tuesday March 4th, 2008, I will present a free lecture-demonstration class about Chinese Health and Fitness Skills: The Tai Chi Ruler and Shaolin Self-Acupressure Massage Chi Kung. [The Chinese also spell it "Qigong" (say: Chee-gong)]. Included will be video that I took in China during two weeks in September 2006, which was my third time studying there.

Location of the classes: (They are NOT in my office at 2 Magnolia Avenue.) The Active Healing Studio, 15-Rear Lexington Avenue in Magnolia. The Studio is in the lower level of the buidling. So walk down the driveway alongside the Shear Madness hair salon. (Please park on the street.)This evening serves as the first of a series of nine (9) classes; From 7:15 to 8:00 PM is an introduction to Qigong for newcomers. (Continuing students should definitely be in the hall by 8 PM for the evening's qigong training.) In this series the primary skill will be the Taiji Ruler Method, which was a secret of Chinese royalty and Taoist monks until the 1950's. We will also continue and deepen skills in the Taoist Inner Smile Meditation. Also continuing, the Shaolin Self-Massage that I learned from Daisy Lee in Beijing as well as the Six Healing Sounds, which was one of the first Chinese health skills that I learned, back in 1982. Please register by phone or in my office. Class times for the rest of the series until the end of April are 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuition for the two month series of classes is $95. The fee includes a video to help you practice at home. Information and reservations: 978-525-2255

Chi Kung (sometimes spelled 'Qigong') is the skill of cultivating the living energy "Chi". With soothing healing movements, ancient breathing skills, and mind-body meditations we learn to feel, circulate and store vitality. By building and refining the Chi we prevent or resolve health problems and reduce physical or mental stress. Regular Chi Kung exercise enhances coordination, physical strength and endurance. Then we bring these improvements into our accomplishments in daily life.

HEALTH SECRETS OF CHINESE CHI KUNG

Periodically I will invite you to experience a free lecture-demonstration and sample class. Do ask to be notified of the next classes. Discover how to recharge your vitality with simple, low impact movements, breath control and guided energy. Wear loose clothing so you can try out some Chi Kung.  Space is limited, please register by phoning 978-525-2255.
Typically in my classes we build health with such sets as the “Bone Marrow Cleansing,”  and with healing meditations. Plus,  another favorite is the Yi Jin Jing Wai Gong - - Qigong to Transform Muscles and Tendons.

Bones are the core energy of the body. The skeleton is a kind of circulatory system for the most yin form of qi, the Jing. (Ordinary Qi circulates in the meridians and Shen Qi (spirit) in the 8 extra meridians.) Most qigong forms work with these inner energetic levels. Muscles, tendons and skin are more surface aspects of the body but are essential for health. They should not be neglected.

This Yi Jin Jing style is from the Southern Shaolin Temple in China. It is for both men & women, young & old. It increases physical strength and resolves problems in the muscles and tendons. It has helped people with fibromyalgia and rheumatism. It is warming; more Yang than the Bone Marrow practice; good for those with cold hands and feet. It is good for wintertime.

All these traditional and time-tested methods recharge you from the abundant life energy that flows all around us in Nature.

CONTINUING STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE:
Fees for continuing students "dropping in" during a series of classes: single classes $13.

My Qigong classes periodically include the Tai Chi Dao Yin style of Chi Kung by Tom Tam, Lic.Ac. (founder of the Oriental Culture Institute, Boston). My other principle Chi Kung teachers include Mantak Chia, Ken Cohen (www.qigonghealing.com), Dr. Kam Yuen (who was a martial arts coach and stuntman on the original Kung Fu television series), and Hu Yulan (with whom I studied in Beijing, China in 1988).  Most recently, just this past September 2006:  Dr. Wan Sujian  in Beijing.  He began his acupuncture training with his parents (both are physicians still in practice).  His studies of Taoist qigong began at age 9. Now a four star general in the Chinese Army Medical Corps, Dr. Wan is well known in medical and academic circles in that country. He was recently appointed to be director of all medical care for the Chinese Olympic teams in next summer's Olympic Games in Beijing. He has taught in the USA and his work was publically introduced to North America in an hour long documentary about Qigong that aired on the PBS network. Click the link just below for a streaming extract from that show, provided by the film-maker. At his institute in Beijing, you will see Dr. Wan teaching qigong and also using External Qi Healing to balance the Qi Field of patients. I can loan you a VHS tape or DVD of the whole documentary film.
